The Starminx

sparkling

A group of dodecahedron puzzle where all their face have a star. The Starminx family is quite interesting because there are four puzzles that share a look but are very different mechanics wise.

a) Starminx I: The face turning one.

b) Starminx II: The edge turning one.

c) Starminx III: The corner turning one.

d) Dino Dodecahedron: Another corner turning one, though the turing depth is a lot less deep than Starminx III, making it feel like a dino cube but it's a dodecahedron. When MF8 started producing it, they decided to called it "Starminx I", While the community is used to the name being refered to the face turning one. And worse, they eventually made that and they named it "Starminx II". That's REALLY confusing.

Anyways, I have one of them: The Starminx I / MF8's "Starminx II". I originally was gonna get a pyraminx crystal, but wasn't able to (my usual place to buy non-WCA puzzle didn't have one in stock). I got this since like that, it's a deeper face-turning dodecahedron. The puzzle came unstickered, and stickering it wasn't as painful because the application tape it included. It turns... kinda bad. Very stiff and slow, even dumping a lot of lube can only make it a bit less terrible.

This is one of the puzzles I need a guide to solve. Solving it is a bit tedious. After putting the edges (like pyraminx crystal) and centers in place, you gotta solve those small triangle pieces. I only learned an algorithm that swaps 3 of these around, and it's pretty long. Doing the long algo plus all the setups makes this step not too fun to go through.
