What the hell IS a rhythm game
got that in yaI've been a music game player for a good while. In that time I have tried many of them, and even been seriously playing and being "decent" at some of them.
Defining the genre
Genre defining is a pretty task, we all know that.
What counts?
Games that doesn't fit
I've seen a lot of disscusion about whether or not "Geo Dash" is a rhythm game or not. And as someone who played a lot of it before, I think it does not. The main gameplay of is you jumping and flying through obstacles to get through a level. While there are music and they play a big part of a level, your jumps generally do not need to be in time with it. Granted there are "sync levels", where almost all clicks are in sync with the beat, but the majority of levels, from easy to demon, aren't that. Ultimately, GD is more of a platformer with music element, not a real rg.
